Set Your Financial Goals for the New Year
The New Year is considered a time for renewal, with new beginnings and resolutions. Your household finances should be a part of this process! Periodic financial checkups provide an opportunity to assess your financial health, make necessary adjustments, and set yourself up for future success. In fact, here are the top four benefits of having regular financial checkups:
- Improved Financial Awareness
By reviewing your income, expenses, debts, and assets, you will gain a more complete overview of your financial health. This allows you to identify areas for improvement, track your progress, and make informed decisions about your financial future. - Identification of Financial Goals
Whether you aim to pay off debt, save for retirement, purchase a home, start a business, or fund your child’s education, reviewing your finances enables you to evaluate whether your goals are still aligned with your current situation. It allows you to fine-tune your goals, establish a plan, and take proactive steps to achieve them effectively. - Effective Budgeting & Spending
By evaluating your income and expenses, you can identify areas where you could cut unnecessary costs. A budget will help you allocate funds towards savings, investments, and debt payments, improving your financial stability and progress toward your goals. - Debt Management & Reduction
By assessing your outstanding loans, credit card balances, and interest rates, you can determine the most efficient ways to pay off your debts. Establishing a plan to reduce debt can help alleviate financial stress and improve credit scores.

Over $41,000 Donated to the Community in 2023
Homebase CU proudly supports our community through education, volunteering, and donations. Throughout 2023, we provided giveaways for community events, led educational activities at schools and businesses, supported our military on Fort Gregg-Adams, offered free webinars on financial topics, and donated to many worthy causes in our service area. Our monetary donations throughout 2023 totaled over $41,000. We love giving back to the communities where we and our members live and work.
Pictured here are two of our latest donations. More than $16,000 was raised through our annual dinner meeting and golf tournament, which was presented to Service Dogs of Virginia (left). Our team was happy to meet athletes from Virginia Special Olympics, presenting a donation of $2,000 (right). We look forward to many opportunities to serve our membership areas in 2024. Our online request form for donation or volunteer support is located at homebasecu.org/giving.
